A photographic experience (this page is about to be replaced with a gallery).
The exterior of the Castle and the surrounding neighbourhood:

Above. North West corner. Viewed from Haingasse. Taken next to Naumann House (former Nazi Party Chief’s house). The west terrace was the scene of Sinclair & Best’s 60 Second Escape. To the left of the hedges is the exrcise park - the scene of Sinclair’s fatal shooting is only a few yards away. *

Above. The view to the right shows the Mulde sweeping round and under the former Adolf Hitler Bridge. The bridge is the same structure the Germans’ tried to mine and bazzooka during the battle for Colditz Town. *

Above. From the North West. Taken further along the Haingasse and beside the River Mulde on the same, East, bank. ***

Above. The view from the West bank of the Mulde taken next to the former Adolf Hitler Bridge. ***

Above. West Tarrace, Cellar House, Guard House & Theatre Block. ***
Above. West Terrace & Cellar House. ***

Above. The grassy meadow on the west bank of the Mulde. The target for the glider? ***

Above & 2 photos below - view from the nearby observation point. **

Above. View from the observation point down towards the grassy meadow (glider destination?) and the train station (in front of the 2 chimneys). **

Above. The abandoned train station. **

The Tiergarten was the exercise park used by the POWs and was the scene of many a successful escape attempt. The high stone wall is still there and although the barb-wire enclosures have gone the atmosphere remains. *

Above. This view demonstrates just how steep the bank was running up to the wall (foreground to the left). To the right can be seen the Terrace House (Le Ray hid in the cellar). *

Above. Terrace House to the left. This view shows the flatter ground and the walks around the park. *

Above. The view to the right, i.e. North. The direction in which Sinclair headed before he was shot down. *

Above. The pond can be seen just through the trees in the mid-left of the photograph. *
