Oflag IVC Colditz

The straight-armed Balkenkreuz, a stylized version of the Iron Cross, the emblem of the Wehrmacht, a decal for the helmets of the Wehrmacht (model 1942) & the Nazi Party Golden Eagle. All symbols of ‘our friends, the enemy’.
For the majority of the war POWs were the responsibility of their reciporical armed service, eg the RAF were under the Luftwaffe and went to Stalag Luft’s. Persistent escapers and ‘anti Germans’ ended up at Colditz. Colditz was at all times manned by a Wehrmacht garrison, even after responsibility of all POWs was tranferred directly to the Nazi’s rather than the military during the latter stages of the war. It is worth noting that for the majority of their incarceration many, many Colditz veterans testified to the correctness of the Wehrmacht’s actions in the administration of the camp though there were some notable exceptions to this rule, see Religions.
The resources on the left provide information on the location of the POW camp and it’s structure.
